How To Choose Your Cricket Bat
Choosing a cricket bat can be complex, especially when comparing different willow grades, sizes, weights, and profiles. With more than 140 years of bat-making experience, GM understands that the right bat is not only about specification, but also about balance, pick-up, feel, and playing style.
Bat size and weight are important starting points. The bat should suit the player’s height, strength, and level of cricket, while still feeling easy to lift, control, and swing through the shot. A heavier bat may offer more power for some players, but the right pick-up and balance are just as important as the listed weight.
The most important thing to remember is that choosing a bat is a personal decision. The best option is the one that feels balanced, comfortable, and suitable for your game.
Where possible, we recommend picking up several bats before making your final choice. Every bat will feel slightly different because no two clefts of willow are the same, even when they come from the same tree. What feels right for one player may not feel right for another.
